2 research-based programmes
Through research, Medela has discovered that babies naturally use different sucking patterns when breastfeeding to maximise their milk supply. This insight has resulted in the two unique pumping programmes from Symphony.

1. INITIAL programme. Mimics the irregular rhythm with which the newborn stimulates the milk flow in the first days of breastfeeding.
2. CONTINUE programme Mimics the biphasic suckling of a healthy baby with established lactation (after the “milk comes in”): with a fast rhythm at the beginning of each breastfeed to stimulate the milk flow (stimulation phase) and a slower, more regular rhythm once the milk flow has started (pumping phase).

The INITIAL programme is particularly suitable for the first hours and days after birth. As soon as milk production starts, the MAINTAIN programme is used.
